Dr Bob CY Chan is a consultant dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon. He has broad interest in all areas of dermatology, including:

  • Medical dermatology including eczema, psoriasis, acne, immunobullous diseases, photosensitivity disorders
  • Skin cancers – diagnosis and treatment (surgical and non-surgical)
  • Mohs micrographic surgery

Dr Chan graduated from The University of Auckland School of Medicine and undertook his specialist dermatology training at Auckland, Middlemore and Christchurch Hospitals. Subsequently, he was awarded the Sir Harcourt Caughey Award research scholarship by the Auckland Medical Research Foundation, which enabled him to complete 2-years of fellowship training, including research in the field of cutaneous lymhoma and experience in dermatology subspecialties, at the prestigious St John's Institute of Dermatology, Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, London, United Kingdom.

St John's Institute of Dermatology is the largest dermatology department in the UK and a world leading dermatology research and clinical centre, in collaboration with King's College London.

Dr Chan was privileged to have trained under some of the UK's leading dermatologists in dedicated tertiary subspecialty clinics at St John's, including in areas of inflammatory skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, immunobullous/blistering disorders, oral dermatology), photodermatology (light sensitivity conditions), urticaria, melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancers, and cutaneous lymphoma amongst others. He subsequently completed a 1-year subspecialty Mohs micrographic surgery and laser fellowship at St John's, which was accredited by the British Association of Dermatologists. Dr Chan worked as a locum consultant dermatologist in Mohs surgery and laser surgery at St John's before returning to New Zealand.

Dr Chan is currently appointed as a consultant dermatologist at the Auckland District Health Board providing services in general dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery. He is actively involved in the training of NZ dermatology trainees and medical students. He has given presentations at national and international conferences, and is a published author in several peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr Chan speaks fluent English and Cantonese.
